Sarah Pierce

Owner/Lead Photographer

"My greatest reward is helping clients see their beauty and capturing a fantastic image that they can be proud to use for their professional and social profiles."

Sarah is the owner and founder of Sarah Pierce Photography/Minneapolis Headshots. She listens to her clients and is very detail oriented. She is the leading headshot photographer in the Twin Cities and has photographed thousands of professional headshots.

"We all tend to focus on those physical traits that we don't like, like a crooked tooth or those pesky crows feet. Things that most people might not even notice. I like to find the good things about each client. Sparkling eyes. An infectious smile. Dimples. Because when we focus on our good qualities, our true personality will shine through in the photos."

Sarah started with film in college and developed her own prints (the old fashioned way -- in the darkroom!) She now uses digital cameras full time and loves keeping up with technology. She graduated from Concordia University in 1999 with a BA in Organizational Management and Communications. She is a proud member of the Professional Photographers of America.

Sarah is married to Dan and they have two children (ages 15 and 18) and a rescue dog named Clyde. They reside in Chanhassen and love visiting Duluth, where Sarah was born.

Find answers to common questions.

Q: In light of the COVID-19 crisis, what safety measures are you taking?
A: Studios are cleaned and sanitized between clients. We recommend not bringing anyone to the session who is not being photographed unless they stay in the waiting area. Our Minnetonka studio has an updated airflow system equipped with MERV-13 filters. Our Minneapolis studio has windows which we open during sessions. Hand sanitizer is available for your use and our nightly cleaning crew has been vigilant in cleaning all surfaces, door handles, and floors. Please contact us if you have questions.

Q: How much is a business portrait session?
A: Please click here for pricing and scheduling.

Q: How soon can I get in for a session?
A: Lead time is usually about a week out but depends on the time of the year. We may also have openings sooner. The easiest way to see my calendar is to start the process of booking a session. Please click here to begin the process and see my calendar.

Q: Are you open on weekends?
A: We are open on weekdays only. If you need an after-hours appointment, we offer later timeslots on Fridays. Please inquire.

Q: Which studio location is right for me?
A: We have studios in Minnetonka (near the Crosstown of Hwy 494 and 62)and in Minneapolis (near the North Loop). Besides location, there can be other factors for choosing one studio over the other. Minnetonka is a more modern space with clean backdrops and a contemporary feel. Minneapolis is more industrial and has more backdrop options and more room to spread out. If you're looking for a beautiful, clean headshot -- then Minnetonka is the perfect choice. If you're looking for a place to host your group or if you're looking for a larger variety of backgrounds, Minneapolis would be the better option.

Q: How many outfit changes am I allowed?
A: It depends on which session option you choose. Please click here to select a session type that meets your needs.

Q: Our company needs multiple business portraits taken. Will you travel to us?
A: Yes, I would love the opportunity to work with your company. Please contact me for more information.

Q: When is the session fee due?
A: Session fee is due immediately upon booking. Date will not be held until session fee is paid for.

Q: What should I wear? How can I prepare for my business portrait/headshot session?
A: Please click here for a quick and easy guide to preparing for a session.

Q: Do you travel?
A: Yes, we will travel. Please contact me for on-location rates and availability.

Q: What is an online proofing gallery?
A: An online proofing gallery is a collection of images from your session that is uploaded to an online viewing page one week after your session. This is where you view and select your favorite images from your session.

Q: Do you retouch images?
A: Ordered images are retouched.

Q: What kind of retouching do you do?
A: Retouching includes: blemish removal, skin softening, teeth whitening, and under eye correction (dark circles, bags, wrinkles). Anything beyond that is an extra fee.

Q: Do you provide professional makeup services?
A: Professional makeup application is highly encouraged. It makes a nice difference on camera. We work with top notch artists who know how to apply makeup for on-camera. They are experienced in how certain makeup photographs. We partner with several different artists who work independently of our studio. You can choose to add on makeup when you book a session online or you can email us. Payment of $125 is made directly to them at the time of your session. All of our makeup artists accept cash, check, or credit card.

Q: Do you provide professional hair services?
A: If you add on professional makeup services, all of our artists will do some light touch-ups of your hair at no extra charge. This includes smoothing fly-aways and adding a bit of volume. If you'd like more extensive hair services such as curling or straightening, please let us know so we can choose an artist who is talented with hair. There is an additional charge of $20 for hair services which is paid directly to the artist. We do not offer blow-outs.

Q: How many proofs will I be presented with?
A: The number of proofs depends on the type of session and how many backgrounds/outfits changes you select. Those images that do not meet my high expectations as well as those images with eyes closed, heads turned, and unpleasing expressions are permanently deleted.

Q: I need to reschedule. How can I do that?
A: I understand that sometimes you might need to reschedule. Rescheduling a session is permitted in accordance with my business policy. I require at least 24-hours notice to reschedule a session. If you do not give 24-hours notice or if you don't show for your session, the session fee will be forfeited. If you reschedule more than 3 times, your session fee will be forfeited.

Q: Is the session fee refundable?
A: Completed sessions and no-shows are non-refundable. If you need to cancel beforehand, you may do so at least 72-hours prior to the session and you will be refunded your session fee minus a 3% transaction fee. This policy is in place because I spend considerable time preparing for your session (studio, set and equipment set-up), and have forfeited offering your timeslot to another client. The easiest way to ensure you don't forfeit your session fee is to contact me to reschedule with more than 24-hours notice.

Q: What does the session fee cover?
A: The session fee covers the photographer's talent, time spent preparing and consulting with the client as well as time spent photographing, selecting and retouching images. Finally, it includes access to a private, online gallery with images from your session to choose from. You also get one or more digital images (depending on session type) which can be used on websites, blogs, social media, business cards, etc. Ordered images are retained for 1 year after session for possible future use by client.

Q: How will I be able to view my proofs?
A: Within 7 days of your session, your photos will be presented to you in an online, private viewing gallery.

Q: Why can't I have all of the photos?
A: Most photographers include a certain number of digital images in their packages. That number includes retouching, which is done by hand and customized for each indivudal. You don't want 100 photos of yourself that will most likely include blinks, duplicate poses, unflattering expressions, and that are not retouched.

Q: Can I buy all the images in my gallery unretouched?
A: If you would like a buyout of your your image gallery, please contact us for more details.

Q: Can I get the high resolution images?
A: Yes, each image you order comes complimentary with a web size image for online use and a high resolution size for print/publication.

Q: Can I get my images printed?
A: Yes, you may print the high resolution versions of your images. I highly recommend Mpix.
